About this Release
Amnesia Bardos, mastermind behind the gutteral-etheric sounds of Morher, is an audiovisual artist, sex worker, and activist. Twice institutionalized and likely still dreaming, their voice seems to rise up out of the depths of their belly and vomit forth. Even with this visceral intensity, you can sense the complex inner workings of Amnesia's mind; the name Morher - which seems to describe their process and presence acutely - is in actuality an homage to their ancestry as Romani or Gypsy. Upcoming album Rabbit Holes [andotherexits] is being released shortly after Amnesia experienced a heart attack, and explores layers of death, paralysis, and the Rromani affliction “Jado” – an illness which drains the life force of Rromani when too much time is spent outside of their culture. Currently based in Chicago, they are pursuing a BFA at SAIC (expected 2018). "Rabbit Holes [andotherexits] was a tape I didn't mean to make. Somehow this year amidst four separate hospitalizations, I managed to record some deeper, darker, closer to death levels of being. I didn't decide to put these recordings together till my last hospitalization, three weeks ago, for a heart attack. Unable to leave the hospital bed, I started sifting through multiple batches of recordings from last winter and conceptualizing this tape. Having experienced a trip to the void and the infinite spiral of unraveling self and reality that is death, Rabbit Holes [andotherexits] was a title that came quite naturally. Despite deep DIY roots in Seattle’s underground, Ambrosia has recently moved to Chicago to pursue a BA of Fine Arts focusing on technology, biology, and sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago as the recipient of a Full Merit Scholarship. |
